I am a resident, small business owner, and father to three children in the Riverview Ward.  My daughter and sons attend Riverview, King George, and Crocus Plains and enjoy the many friendships they have made along the way.  As a member of the city’s Poverty Committee, I’ve come to see some of the key issues that many people may end up facing in our city, such as food security, affordable housing and receiving of necessary services.

Our city is one that has been very blessed over the years by those that have put in the work to make it a great place.  Maintaining our infrastructure, parks, recreation, and essential services are key to the prosperity and vitality of our community.  I believe that community-minded leadership is what is needed in our city and I plan to bring it to the next council table.

Glen Parker Glen Parker - Riverview candidate

Glen and his family are proud lifetime Brandon residents. He and his wife Shannon have two adult sons, both of whom remain in Brandon.

Glen has a long resume of volunteering in the community, serving on the Hockey Brandon board for 24 years – 17 as president. He serves as director for Brandon on the Hockey Manitoba Board and is a past winner of their Volunteer of the Year Award and was a recipient of the Hockey Canada Meritorious Service Award. Additionally he has been the Chair of the Father Son Golf Tournament for the past 22 years. He continues to volunteer as an on-ice lead instructor for The First Shift – an introduction to hockey program.  Other volunteer duties include VP of the East End Community Centre where he and his wife have volunteered in a variety of roles for more than 30 years. Additionally Glen has volunteered for Big Brothers & Sisters, Alzheimer’s Society, Relay for Life and canvassed for several other charities. As a member of Council he sits on two boards; WMCA and Age friendly Brandon. He is an alternate on BAPD board.

As someone who grew up in the east end of the city – attending school there, and having owned homes in the ward – he feels a definite connection to the ward and its residents. He cites numerous improvements in the area, and the residents helped since elected for driving his desire to continue to serve and lead the ward.

Glen believes he and his colleagues have done some good work to keep tax increases low, but a focus on spending is required to maintain this trend. With years of training in a job with multi-million dollar budgets and two city budgets under his belt, Glen believes he continues to be the right choice to lead Riverview.
